This segment from the April 14, 1985, episode of the series “Folks” features Rob Hinton’s report on Governor Edwin Edwards announcing the establishment of two new commissions, the Commission on Hispanic-American Affairs and the Commission on Asian-American Affairs. He interviews Esperanza Sciortino, the Assistant to the Governor on Hispanic American Affairs, who discusses the challenges facing Hispanic-Americans living in Louisiana. Hinton also interviews Steve Lam, the Deputy Secretary for the Louisiana Department of Urban and Community Affairs and the Assistant to the Governor on Asian-American Affairs, who discusses the goals of the commission and his hope that Asian-Americans will be brought into the mainstream in Louisiana.
