This segment from the November 18, 1984, episode of the series “Folks” features the first part of Rob Hinton presenting highlights of a passionate speech given by Thomas Todd, a civil rights activist and the former president of Operation PUSH, in New Orleans. He discusses his views on the progress made by African Americans, African Americans as a race built by the law, and the bleak future of black America. Hinton also conducts an in-studio interview with Rupert Richardson, the president of the Louisiana NAACP, and A.Z. Young of the Governor’s Office of Minority Affairs, on their reaction to Todd’s speech.
