Description
This episode of the series “Behind the Glory” from March 14, 2024, features Lyn Rollins’ interview with Alana Beard, a 2023 inductee into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame. Beard, a native of Shreveport, played college basketball at Duke University from 2000-2004 and played professional basketball in the WNBA from 2004-2019. She discusses: her decision to attend Duke; her high school career; the importance of Title IX; her work with her foundation, the 318 Foundation, to help girls from disadvantaged communities; and the honor of being inducted into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame. This episode also includes a profile of Beard’s career, including interviews with Steve McDowell, the former head coach at Southwood High School in Shreveport, and Gail Goestenkors, the head coach at Duke from 1992-2007.
